Hotel Review: The coziest stay in all of Canada at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Updated: Sep 9, 2023

Situated in the amazing Jasper National Park in Alberta, the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge was the ideal place to stay on my short visit to this beautiful area. The lodges here are surrounded by mountains and nature, so for me personally, this was the place to stay as I love being so close to nature. Open all year round on a 700 acre site, located a few kilometers south-east of Jasper, the resort is located on the shores of the pristine lake ‘Lac Beavert’ and also hosts Canada’s number one golf resort course.

Where do I start by telling you about my stay here and what I did? Walking around the complex I noticed there were different types of chalets and cabins to stay in, all connected with paths with trees overlooking, a nice touch to the place which connects with the nature of the National Park.

The room I stayed in was in the main building, known as the Fairmont rooms which are ideal for individuals or couples, includes the king size bed and washroom facilities as well as the standard amenities which comes with a Fairmont room including cable television, coffee machine and kettle, an unstocked mini refrigerator, hair dryer, iron and ironing board and on request, bathrobes, crib, microwaves to name a few.

I also had the chance to have a peep into the Ridgeline Cabins which have been redesigned recently and have three bedrooms (one with two queen beds and two rooms with one king size bed) and en suite bathroom in each bedroom. How amazing is that! The cabins can have up to eight adults staying in here which is the ideal perfect space for families or big groups to relax. There was even a full blown kitchen (which includes a cabin washer and dryer) dining area and a lounge area with a fireplace. This cabin was a lot better than my three bedroom end-of-terrace house back home in the United Kingdom and to be frank, I wanted to move into this cabin after having a little nose around.

Now when I stay in luxury accommodation and they have a spa service on site, I just have to check it out. This is the ideal place to unwind and relax. Arriving early and changing into a robe, I was in a room with a fireplace in the middle of winter looking out of the window and seeing the nearby snow capped mountains. It was beautiful. Before I knew it, I was having a full blown ninety minute massage before ending my experience with a sauna and steam room. After the experience of the few hours spent giving my body the relaxing touch it needed, I came away feeling alive and mellowed.

Every morning I was also in the health club where I checked out the fitness room and swimming pool to keep my fitness levels up (as my followers know, I love to do a lot of hiking, running and cycling). This was the ideal way to start each day before checking out the local area.

For dining there are several restaurants and eateries on site but I am going to have to admit this, I didn’t eat here. Not because of prices etc, dam no, I was so busy in the Jasper area that I was eating in the town itself before heading back to the resort. If I stayed here longer than I probably would have checked some of them out, ranging from a steakhouse to Japanese sushi. However I did check out the bar in the main lobby and had a few drinkies whilst taking in the grand decor and the fireplace. What I loved about the bar the most (apart from their wide range of drinks from beers, wines and spirits) was the bar staff. I was speaking to one member of staff who knew his stuff on the local drinks as well as what to see and do in Jasper National Park. I never met a barman who was passionate about his home area and drinks. I can’t remember his name (sorry) but his passion, experissons, and information hasn’t left me since this visit.

Hey, I am writing about my experience at the Jasper Park Lodge and forgot to mention my arrival. Well, what can I say, the main lobby is huge but the staff made me very welcome and were informative as well. I was also lucky enough to speak to the management team here (as I had a lot of questions about the resort), they knew their stuff and cared for their customers greatly. I felt appreciated and came away smiling. Ther service I received here, not just at the lobby or bar, but everywhere including the spa and in the shops, was amazing.

Another main attraction to the resort is the golf, however, I don’t like golf. It spoils a good walk. In the bar (once again), I spoke to a few golfers (however, this was winter so they came here for the relaxation) they all said that the golf course here is totally amazing and can be challenging in places but that’s what brings them back to this resort, to relax, unwind and swing a few clubs. For the outdoors I loved walking around checking out the views. My favourite thing to do was to walk down to the lake shores ( at the Fairmont Jasper Lodge Resort even though it was in the depths of winter, but don’t let the cold temperatures put you off. The warmth, the grandeur, of the resort and the people will keep those cold feelings away and warm you up with delightful service and a comfortable stay. I have been to this part of the world twice and I hope to return to the national park again soon. I really hope to stay here in the summer months to see the chipmunks roaming around and the pristine water on the lake as I saw in many photos dotted around the hotel.
